Project goals

Key goals of the MARS 500 project include:
  • Exploration of the influence of a simulated piloted flight to Mars on the health and working performance of the crew.
  • Organization of work of the crew and interaction with the ground Control Centre.
  • Develop activity principles, methods and tools of the interplanetary spaceship crew:
a) control, diagnostics and prediction of the health fitness and performance of the staff; health care including the use of remote diagnostics;
b) preventing some adverse effects of the “long-term flight” on the human body;
c) psycho-social support and monitoring of the state of health in the closed experimental premises of the complex.
  • Testing the devices and tools for providing the living conditions for humans.
  • Testing the biomedical system of data processing.

The aim is to acquire results to specify the concept of providing the medical-biological safety of the crew of the piloted expeditions to Mars, as well as to formulate the essential requirements on the concept of complex technical systems for providing the living conditions of an interplanetary piloted spaceship crew.
